The Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV, invites us to pray for the proper use of wealth this November. He encourages us not to succumb to the temptations of selfishness and greed, but to put our material blessings and resources at the service of the common good, especially in solidarity with those who have little or nothing.
This intention reminds us that everything we have is ultimately a gift from God. He entrusts us with our talents, possessions, money, time, and abilities not only for our own well-being, but also to help others. When we learn to share what we have, we become instruments of God's love and compassion. We must also learn not to become attached to our possessions or allow material things to control our lives.
True Christian generosity is measured not by how much we give, but by the love and sincerity behind our giving. A kind act, a listening ear, a shared meal, or a visit to someone who is lonely may mean more than we realise. The Holy Father’s intention calls us to look beyond ourselves and recognise that our blessings carry a responsibility towards others.
This invitation takes on particular significance as we prepare to celebrate the 10th World Day of the Poor on Sunday, 15 November 2026. Pope Leo XIV has chosen the theme, “The Lord is the refuge of the poor” (Psalm 14:6). This year’s theme reminds us that God is close to those experiencing poverty, suffering, rejection, and uncertainty. He hears their cries and offers them hope, dignity, and refuge.
The Holy Father reminds the Church that we must seek refuge in God and become a refuge for the poor. They should never feel like strangers or be unwelcomed in our communities, but should be treated as brothers and sisters with love, respect, and dignity. We must meet them, listen to their stories, understand their struggles, and walk alongside them.
Our Parish makes special efforts to reach out to the poor and vulnerable in our community and in society at large. Every year, we celebrate the World Day of the Poor with our brothers and sisters in need. This year, on 15 November 2026, approximately 400 people, including migrants, Orang Asli, and the local underprivileged, are expected to gather on the church grounds.
We will begin the day with the Eucharistic celebration at 9.00 am, followed by a food carnival, various activities including games, and fellowship on our church grounds. We thank our Parishioners, volunteers, benefactors, and contributors for making these outreach activities possible. Let us come together to celebrate with them, share our blessings, and reach out to those in need.
May we always keep our hearts open to the needs of others. May St Thomas the Apostle inspire us to become a community of faith that gives generously, serves humbly, and walks together in love.
